Hey all!
Told you that posts here would likely be infrequent.
I just wanted to keep anyone that still checks this site in the loop (since at this point I am most active in the Discord server) on what's happened as of recent.
Our biggest finds recently have been from a site called Mixi, a Japanese blogging site that I had no idea existed, as well as 5chan, a variant of 2chan that I also had no idea existed until thecalicrusher on Discord brought them to my attention back in November. Thanks a million, brother.
Among our findings:
Multiple extensive reviews with new story details, which can now be viewed in the Viewer Testimonies document
The pin/badge that was given out to those who watched the movie three times as part of the WRYYY-peater Campaign
Multiple new pictures of the Joint Preview Event
Information on a special screening named the JoJo's Bizarre Film Festival, which was hosted by the JoJo fan group Passione
You're probably wondering, "But that's not closer to finding the actual film!" And to that I say, you're right.
BUT, there was one user that, in their Mixi post, mentioned the following:
“(I guess posting photos would violate copyright law, huh? ;;)”
There is a possibility that this person has/had pictures from their screening - although, considering it's been 19 years since the film's release (and subsequently this user's post), I cannot guarantee anything, as always. The link to the post will not be shared here to not risk the user's messages being flooded by people clamoring for the details. I don't mean that in a mean way, but regardless thecalicrusher and I will handle things on that front.
It's worth noting that at this point, I feel like insight from audiences and more peeks into these events and screenings have become just as valuable as the film itself. And personally, I feel like I'm getting a clearer mental image of the film's structure and flow. If you read all of the viewer testimonies, there's a chance that you will too, especially after our newest findings.
For those wondering about the collaboration between myself, LSuperSonicQ, and our anonymous source, we are still following the leads, and we are still opting to keep the details under wraps. Just so that everyone is on the same page, the leads still exist, it's just another matter of time and patience. And if you've been around with this search long enough, you'll know that this isn't our first waiting game. We must have patience, for it is a virtue.
Some other miscellaneous findings/mentions include:
The confirmed existence of an ad, potentially multiple, being played on TV Tokyo on February 1st, 2007 - has yet to be found/documented
Katsuyuki Konishi being brought on as a guest on a radio show to talk about the film - has yet to be found/documented
New film strip bookmark variants
The confirmed existence of the videos from the official website being uploaded to YouTube at some point, but lead to dead ends
Once again, if I happened to forget something (my memory hasn't gotten any better), then someone from the Discord can come and correct me.
All of that aside, can you believe that the movie turns 20 years old next year? That's wild. When I started my personal research on the film, it was only 12 years old. Time really does fly, doesn't it?
Is it possible that they'll re-release the film for the 20th anniversary? As much as I'd love for them to do so, I doubt they'd do it - there are some big factors as to why they wouldn't, such as the animation studio having shut down 3 years ago and the overall negative reception of the film, among other things. A man can dream, though!
Well, I think that's all I've got to say for now.
Stay positive, my friends!
