Hey everybody! We've got another recovered video on our hands, this time a new version of the theatrical trailer!
For context: there have been multiple versions of it uploaded throughout the years, particularly to YouTube and Dailymotion. However, these versions featured graphical glitches at different places, and the audio quality was slightly muffled. Mangomation put these two versions together to try and make a more "definitive" edition, though the graphical glitches still persisted.
But, thanks to the efforts of kirbo, we've recovered an alternate upload of the trailer from YouTube that features no graphical glitches, and has a nice, crisp audio quality, making this the highest quality version of the trailer we have yet. Big shoutouts to CaliCrusher for sending this my way as well!
We've been speculating on where this particular version of the trailer came from, whether it was directly from the film's website, or if it was ripped from a DVD. You might be wondering, "a DVD? What do you mean?" Well, I was informed that the artifacts on the very top and bottom of the video may indicate that it was, in fact, ripped from a DVD, since these types of artifacts seem to be common among rips.
As for what DVD this could be from, I have absolutely no idea. Back in 2021, I tried looking through DVDs released from both AP3 and Klockworx in order to find promo material, but bore no fruit. It's possible that I was looking in the wrong places (or just didn't get enough material), and that I need to look at DVDs released by Shueisha instead (which in hindsight, makes a lot more sense). Some more discussion will need to be had, whether with you guys or with my colleagues, on the matter.
Regardless of all of that, I'm simply glad that we found a version with a more consistent visual quality and with crisp audio. Seriously, go back and compare the old versions to this - the difference is night and day.
One more thing, regarding the #ReleasePhantomBlood2007 campaign: I am well aware that the next batch of Steel Ball Run episodes are coming next month, and that puts quite a bit of pressure on my shoulders to try and finish everything up prior to that so we can ride the hype train, as it were. I was reluctant to try and launch the campaign around that time, but I was convinced that we could potentially use the Steel Ball Run hype as a stepping stone for the Phantom Blood movie. I mean, it's still JoJo at the end of the day, right? It might take some more careful planning, but I'm convinced we can make it work. I'm almost finished with the content required to get the ball rolling for real, so it's not like I'm running super behind. Not like I didn't propose this campaign back in February or anything...
With that, I think that's all I have for now. Until next time, stay positive my friends, and here's to finding the movie!
